BREEAM LCA Certification
BREEAM Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) evaluates the environmental impacts of building materials and construction throughout a project’s lifecycle.
As part of the wider BREEAM assessment process, LCA plays a key role in demonstrating reduced embodied environmental impacts and improving overall sustainability performance.
We provide end-to-end BREEAM LCA certification support, guiding your project from early-stage design through to final submission. Using recognised lifecycle assessment methodologies and compliant software, we help identify opportunities to reduce embodied carbon, maximise available BREEAM credits, and produce the evidence required for certification. Our structured approach ensures assessments are delivered efficiently, supporting project teams in achieving their sustainability objectives.

How We Work
Our involvement typically begins during the concept or developed design stage, when design changes have the greatest opportunity to improve environmental performance. We undertake lifecycle modelling, assess design and material options, identify opportunities to improve BREEAM Mat 01 performance, and prepare the documentation required for submission. As the design develops, we update the assessment as necessary and provide the final evidence package to support BREEAM certification.
Typical Ratings
While every project differs, many of our clients aim for a BREEAM Excellent rating, a strong, achievable benchmark that balances ambition with deliverability.
Common Questions
What is BREEAM LCA (Mat 01)?
BREEAM Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) evaluates the environmental impact of building materials and construction throughout a project’s lifecycle. It sits within the wider BREEAM assessment process under the Mat 01 credit, and plays a key role in demonstrating reduced embodied environmental impact.
Is BREEAM LCA the same as full BREEAM certification?
No. Full BREEAM certification covers many credits across a project. BREEAM LCA is one specific element within that process, focused on the environmental impact of materials under Mat 01. Net Zero Consulting specialises in this LCA element specifically, not full BREEAM certification management.
Which BREEAM scheme types do you cover?
We work across a defined range of BREEAM scheme types rather than all of them. Get in touch with your project details and we can confirm quickly whether your scheme is one we support.
When should BREEAM LCA support begin on a project?
Ideally at concept or developed design stage, when design and material changes still have the greatest opportunity to improve environmental performance. Involvement can begin later, but earlier input generally gives more scope to influence outcomes.
