Whole Life Carbon Assessment

A Whole Life Carbon Assessment (WLCA) evaluates the total carbon impact of a building across its entire lifecycle.

This includes the extraction and manufacture of materials, transportation, construction, operational energy use, maintenance and refurbishment, and eventual demolition, reuse, or recycling.

By considering the full lifecycle of a building rather than separating construction and operational emissions, WLCA provides a clearer understanding of where carbon impacts are greatest, enabling informed decisions to be made early in the design process, when there is the most opportunity to reduce emissions effectively.

Our Approach

We deliver rigorous, data-driven whole life carbon assessments that support informed decision-making at every stage of a project.

Our analysis identifies key carbon drivers early, enabling reductions through smarter design choices, material selection, and construction strategies.
Our assessments also support planning applications, regulatory compliance, and long-term sustainability targets, helping ensure your project meets current and future carbon requirements.

Standards & Compliance

All assessments are carried out in line with the latest relevant standards and guidance, including:
UK Net Zero Building Standard
RICS Whole Life Carbon Assessment Standard (V2)
PAS 2080, Carbon Management in Infrastructure
ISO 14064, Greenhouse Gas Accounting and Verification
ISO 14040 / ISO 14044, Life Cycle Assessment Principles and Framework
BS EN 15978, Sustainability of Construction Works

When You Need One

Whole Life Carbon Assessments are increasingly being requested at the planning stage for larger developments, as clients and planning authorities place greater emphasis on verified carbon data.

They are also becoming a key requirement at tender stage, where clear carbon targets and credible reporting can strengthen bids and improve competitiveness when securing new work.

We support our clients in preparing accurate, compliant assessments that not only meet current requirements but also position projects ahead of demand. By having robust WLCA data in place early, you can streamline approvals, respond quickly to tender requirements, and avoid delays when detailed carbon reporting is requested.

What You’ll Receive

What you receive depends on your project stage:
Tender Stage, a high-level overview to support early decision-making and bid submissions.
Technical Design Stage, a detailed report with full carbon-reduction recommendations.
Post-Completion, a final report confirming as-built outcomes.
Every assessment comes with a fully compliant calculation report, ready to take forward for third-party verification where this is required. We’re happy to refer you to an accredited verification partner to complete that step.

Timeline

Tender Stage (RIBA 2), up to 2 weeks
Technical Design / Construction Stage (RIBA 4), up to 6 weeks
Post-Completion (RIBA 6), up to 4 weeks
